The Los Alamos County Recreation Division presents the Los Alamos County Horse Show at 9 a.m. at Brewer Arena. Horse Show registration forms are available at the Aquatic Center or visit the website at losalamosnm.us/rec. Return all registration forms to the aquatic center by 5 p.m. July 5. Pre-Registration: $5 class entry per participant (by July 5). Late Registration: $8 class entry per participant (after July 5). Family Registration: $30 per family. Families are three or more participants. Participants must be immediate family members residing in the same household. After July 5, the registration fee will be $40 per family. Dorothy Hoard leads this hike to a natural spring where water flows out of the ground and the Veronica, a plant that grows in water, is blooming. Hoard will share the history of the area, with a round-trip distance under 1.5 miles and a fairly level dirt road, with options to extend. Meet at PEEC at 9 a.m. or at the trailhead at the intersection of N.M. 4 and Forest Road 181 at 9:30 a.m. Free, no registration required.  Quiet, Gentle Walk with PEEC.  A gentle walk for those who want a quiet walk along a relatively flat trail.  The walks range from one to two miles in length and may include gentle changes in elevation. By popular demand, they are keeping the 20 minutes of silent walking. No small children or dogs. Register in advance, as space is limited. Summer Family Evenings at PEEC: Harrell House of Natural Oddities’ Bug Zoo. Come to a show from the Harrell House of Natural Oddities. They’ll bring a selection of live critters, including tarantulas, scorpions, insects, centipedes, crabs and more. First of a series of three fly tying classes with Bill Orr. Join Orr, author of “Fly Patterns of Northern New Mexico” for this three-session workshop. Participants will make a minimum of six patterns that work well in New Mexico, with more made if time allows. Class will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays July 11, 18 and 25.
