Downtown Dogs. A weekly walking group for dogs and humans. The walk starts from Pet Pangaea at 6 p.m. on Thursday nights for a stroll around downtown Los Alamos. Bring a leash, no longer than six feet.

White Rock Family Friendly Film Series. “The Lorax.” 6:30 p.m. at White Rock Town Hall.

The Los Alamos Democratic Party monthly meeting. 7 p.m. at UNM-LA, building 2. All Democrats are invited to attend.

“Science on Tap.” 5:30-7 p.m. at the Blue Window Bistro in downtown Los Alamos. LANL’s Patrick McCormick will have an informal chat about high performance computing. The topic, “Future System Architectures for High Performance Computing — Pardon Me While I Take This Call…,” will cover McCormick’s perspective that to really impact science, we need to find ways to better leverage other parts of the industry.

Saturday
Staying Independent with Vision Loss. Seminar will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Betty Ehart Center. There will be cooking demonstrations, tips on how to continue to use your computer and smart phone, and discussions on blindness, low vision and strategies to prevent vision loss from stifling independence and self-confidence. Free. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch, beverages will be provided.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Fair. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fuller Lodge. Information on Alzheimer’s from presentations and vendors. For more information visit facebook.com/alzlosalamos.

Bradbury Science Museum Cinema. 10:30 a.m. every Saturday. Short science films ranging in topics from microbes to aquifers to addiction. The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night, 8:30 p.m. at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park. Weather permitting, the public is invited to look through telescopes and star gaze. The planets Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will be visible. There will be a tour of the Summer constellations. The Republican Party of Los Alamos and the Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will have its annual picnic at 4 p.m. at Rover Park in White Rock. The picnic is being sponsored by State Farm Agent Abe Dispennette. Hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks will be available. Attendees are asked to bring side dish or dessert to share. Nature Playtimes Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. 10-11 a.m. toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers come to PEEC to explore the natural world. Each Playtime features a story and stations centered around a theme, as well as outside time. No advance registration required. Free. Summer Family Evenings: Predators, Prey, and Art. 6:30 – 8 p.m. Chris Judson of Bandelier will give a slide show about predators and prey. Ken Nebel of the Fuller Lodge Art Center will help the kids create art inspired by what they have learned. Presentation at 6:30 p.m., drop in for the art activity anytime after that. At PEEC.
