There will be a poetry gathering at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda of Mesa Public Library.

The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents, “Happy Feet 2,” at 7 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

The Los Alamos Opera Guild, a member of The Guilds of The Santa Fe Opera, Inc., announces a special presentation, “Preview of the Santa Fe Opera 2012,” by local opera singer Alicia Solomon. Jin Park’s senior recital, with special guest appearances by Dalton Smith, Judy Lee, Victoria Wang and Nathan Salazar will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3700 Canyon Road. The recital will feature works by Samuel Barber, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frederic Chopin, Gian Carlo Menotti, Maria Theresa Von Paradis, Dmitir Shostakovich and Alexander Borodin, along with a special surprise. The suggested donation is two cans of non-perishable food, which will be benefit LA Cares.

The libraries are doing hands-on clinics to help patrons learn how to use the new service for downloadable audio books and eBooks. Patrons should bring their own devices on which they plan to use the service with them for the most effective session. The Overdrive clinics will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 15 and 22 at Mesa Public Library.

The Mesa Public Library is hosting a poetry reading with Mike Katko and David Schiferl at 7 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda.

 Conclude this year’s National Garden Week with a plant swap. Bring spare plants to swap with fellow gardeners and learn more about a new community garden in White Rock from 9 a.m.-noon at Rocket Park. For more information, call Laurie Hixon at 672-3483.

The Los Alamos Creative District is now accepting applications for exhibitors/vendors from throughout the area to display and sell their work at the White Rock Art and Artisans Market.  The next meeting of the Los Alamos Geological Society will be at 6 p.m. at the Christian Church, 92 East Road. This meeting will be a potluck and silent auction with the main entrée provided by El Parasol. Bring a favorite dessert to share, a hearty appetite and your checkbook. The June field trip will be to the Nacimiento Mine about six miles east of Cuba, N.M. For this trip, we will meet at 6:50 a.m. on June 23 at the Sullivan Field parking lot. Plan on bringing rock breaking equipment, storage items to protect small specimens, a hand lens, eye protection, camera, sunscreen, water, lunch and snacks.
