The next meeting of the Los Alamos Geological Society will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Christian Church, 92 East Road. The speaker will be Dr. Catherine Plesko. The May 2012 field trip will be to the Ojo Caliente area on Saturday. The goup will meet at 7:50 a.m. in the Sullivan Field parking lot. Wednesday
 GeekOut Game night from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Mesa Public Library. Bring your own games or play theirs. Bring a friend or meet new ones.

The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board will attend the Capital Projects Special Council Meeting in Council Chambers at 6 p.m. in place of the regularly scheduled board meeting. There will be an opportunity for public comment on proposed CIP projects including the Teen Center. The JJAB invites the public to attend and show support for a safe place for teens to gather, learn and express themselves. For more information, call 661-4097.

The Los Alamos High School dance classes invite the community to the Spring Dance Show at 7 p.m. in the Duane Smith Auditorium. High school students and guest performers will present acts in a variety of dance styles. The event is free to the public.

“The Open Road: Journey into Retirement.” What are you doing with the rest of your life?  Do you want an encore career? What will be your purpose when you’re no longer working? What volunteer possibilities are out there for you? Ann Shafer and Irene Powell will explore these questions and more at 7 p.m. at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, 1101 Bathtub Row.
Thursday
The Sierrans will host a highway clean up along the stretch of road on N.M. 4 at the Valles Caldera. Meet at Ponderosa Campground at 5 p.m. to carpool. It should take no more than two hours. Bring work gloves and water. Trash bags will be provided.

The League of Women Voters Forum will be at 6:30 p.m. in the UNM-LA Lecture Hall, Building 2. Meet U.S. Republican Congressional candidates, the New Mexico Senate candidates and those from the Public Regulation Commission and district attorney races.

The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents, “Hugo,” at 7 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

Call is made for the 2012 Quadrennial Los Alamos Republican Convention at the Los Alamos VFW, 1793 Deacon St., and for a Los Alamos Central Committee meeting at 7 p.m. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. The Los Alamos County Central Committee Meeting will start at 7 p.m. Immediately following, Ward Caucuses will be held to elect ward delegates to the County Quadrennial Convention. The Los Alamos Branch of AAUW will hold its Spring Membership Tea from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the Hearth Room at the Unitarian Church, 1738 N. Sage St. The speaker, Sharon Snyder, is the author of a new book about the life of Peggy Pond Church entitled “At Home on the Slopes of Mountains.” Help us to celebrate Peggy Church’s era by dressing in the 40s, 50s-style in hat, gloves, pearls if you desire. Membership dues will be collected and the new board members will be installed.
