GeekOut Game Night from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Mesa Public Library. Bring your own games or play theirs. Bring a friend or meet new ones.
The Senior Appreciation Night planning meeting will be from 1-2 p.m. in the aquatic center training room, 2760 Canyon Road.
The monthly Los Alamos county GOP meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the third floor conference room of the Best Western Hilltop House Hotel. The topics of the meeting will be the new Los Alamos County polling places, voter registration training and meeting of the GOP candidates running for local offices. All registered Republicans are invited to attend.
Chamisa Elementary will host a book fair from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. April 20 to April 25. A special Saturday event has been added this weekend from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., during the Chamisa Carnival. Volunteer slots are available during the weekdays and more information is available by calling librarian Beverly Baker at 663-2470. Chamisa is located at 301 Meadow Lane.
A team registration event for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Coffee Booth Café. The 2012 Los Alamos Relay for Life will be June 15 and 16 at Ashley Pond. Relay for Life celebrates cancer survivors, remembers those who lost their battle with cancer, is a way for everyone to fight against cancer, is fun for the whole family and raises money to support cancer research and services for cancer patients. The Earth Day Festival from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. will feature displays by earth-friendly organizations, entertainment by Clan Tynker, the Hillstompers and Wise Fool; puppet making for kids; bird walks, food and more.
The Low Vision Support Group meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. Representatives from the New Mexico Commission for the Blind will be there for private consultation and scheduling home visits. Caregivers and families welcome.
The Northern New Mexico Citizen’s Advisory Board combined committee meetings about Los Alamos National Laboratory legacy waste cleanup and environmental monitoring will be at 1 p.m. in the Bradbury Science Museum.
The Los Alamos Community of Atheists will host a community discussion in room 1 of the Mesa Public Library 6:30 p.m. This week’s discussion focuses on Life after Faith. Rich Lyons, ex-Pentecostal preacher and co-host of the Living After Faith podcast, will tell his story from faith to atheism via Skype followed by a question and answer session. Chamisa Elementary students will host a Recycle Fashion Show at 6:30 p.m. Under the direction of Joyce Haven and Andrea Lynch, the theme of Kadinsky’s Circles has inspired the efforts produced by the Family YMCA after school program. Village Arts, Starbucks, the Los Alamos Co-Op and Otowi Station Book Store also sponsor the Fourth Annual event. Los Alamos County’s Tom Nagawiecki will kick off the event. Los Alamos Arts Council presents Guitars at the Lodge with the Rio Grande Guitar Quarter at 7 p.m. at Fuller Lodge. Cost is $15 or $10 for LAAC members and includes light refreshments.
The Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. at the Crossroads Bible Church. Tickets are $15 for adults and are available at the door. Students will be admitted for free.
