The Los Alamos Genealogical Association will meet at 7 p.m., at the Mesa Public Library. George Jennings will give a report on the recent Roots Tech 2013 Conference and the benefits of attending genealogical conferences. The public is invited.
The Posse Lodge is holding a fundraiser to kick off the 2013 Summer Concert Series. 7 p.m., featuring Los Alamos roots-rock band, DK & the Affordables. The Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series is set to begin May 17. Nineteen concerts are planned. Bring lawn chairs. The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a county-sponsored Dark Night at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park, starting at 7:45 p.m. Weather permitting, the public is invited to wander among the telescopes and star gaze. Old La Bajada Road Hike. Janie O’Rourke will lead a hike following a historic roadway up and down the escarpment at La Bajada. Caving Outing. PEEC is offering an exciting outing to Alabaster Cave near San Isidro. Tony Hinojosa will lead a group through the wild cave, stopping for lunch in the cool darkness. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Los Alamos Little Theater Script Analysis Workshop, taught by Shep Sobel. The workshop is based on the premise that a great play is built on a strong skeleton – or structure – and that examining the play with a mind to articulating the details of that structure can inform the choices of the playwright, director, design team and actor. Analysis of Arthur Miller’s script, “All My Sons.” Participants are asked to read script and bring a copy to the workshop.

Juvenile Justice Advisory Board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Building #1, Camino Entrada Road, Pajarito Cliffs Site. Jennifer Weiss, executive director of the Heroin Awareness Committee will present “Opiate Addiction — No Exceptions” — a presentation and discussion regarding the current reality of drug addiction in New Mexico and the prevalence of prescription drug abuse among our youth. The public is welcome.

Natural History of Bats: Masters of the Night Sky. Wildlife biologist Debbie Buecher will give an overview of the amazing natural history of bats, play bat calls, and discuss her research. The Republican Party of Los Alamos will elect the 2013-2015 County Central Committee and its officers at the Jeannette O. Wallace Hall, room 505, at UNM-LA, 400 University Drive. The County Contingent to the Republican Party of New Mexico Central Committee will also be elected. Republicans registered in the county are encouraged to attend.
