The Los Alamos High School NJROTC will have a brisket dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Posse Shack on North Mesa. The price will be $10 and the menu includes brisket, corn, potato salad, roll, cookies and a drink.

The Los Alamos Arts Council will begin its 2011 Guitar Concert Series, Guitars at the Lodge, at Fuller Lodge at 7 p.m. Beverage and cookies available at 7 p.m., music begins at 7:15 p.m.  Admission is $15 at the door for non-members, $10 for members.

The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will hold a brown bag meeting from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road, in the lounge on the lower level of the Sunday School building. Pajarito Environmental Education Center will host a Star Party at 7 p.m. with Dr. James Maxwell. Learn about the universe with a short illustrated talk, then head outdoors to see the stars through PEEC’s large, 20-inch telescope.  Free, family-friendly, and open to the public.

The Los Alamos Piecemakers Quilt Guild is having a March program entitled, “Reaching Beyond Tradition with Foundation Paper Piecing” and trunk show given by Judy Niemeyer at 7 p.m. at the White Rock Baptist Church.  Niemeyer is an international instructor known for her foundation paper piecing techniques and quilt patterns. She will also conduct a workshop from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 29. For more information on the workshop please contact Jo Ann Painter at 672-1583.

The National Private Duty Association will offer A Web conference to help families in New Mexico facing hiring a caregiver for a family member, at 7 p.m.. The live and interactive program, which will provide advice on reducing risks during the home care hiring process, is free of charge to participants. Pre-registration for the event is required. A pre-audition workshop for Los Alamos Light Orchestra’s production of “Into the Woods,” will be from 3-6 p.m. at the Unitarian Church. Auditions are from 1-6 p.m. April 10, and from 6:30-9 p.m. April 11 in the Duane Smith Auditorium. Potential cast members are asked to come prepared to sing a solo. It does not have to be a selection from “Into the Woods.” Scripts and scores are available at the Mesa Library Reference Desk. The Hula Ministry is hosting a fundraiser at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. There will be a traditional pre-show until 5 p.m., when chicken teriyaki dinner with desserts and drinks will be served. Hula dancing and worship will be from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Tickets, $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 6-12 and free for children age five and younger, may be purchased at Brownell’s Hallmark or by calling 920-0872.

The Family YMCA is offering free activities in support of active lifestyles at its annual Healthy Kids Day, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The day will feature offerings by local farmers in the Y parking lot, free climbing on their climbing wall, a youth clothing, toy and sports equipment swap and several family games. Free healthy eating and active lifestyle resources will also be available as support to families who desire educational materials.
