The deadline for receiving proposals for plays to be performed in the 2013-14 Los Alamos Little Theatre season is Jan. 31. Look for the information sheet on the resources page at lalt.org for instructions.

The LAHS NJROTC will host brisket night from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Posse Lodge. A $10 donation includes barbecue pork, potato salad, baked beans, corn, a cookie and drink. Proceeds go toward competition travel.

The Los Alamos Sheriff’s Posse Lodge will hold a pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. at the Posse Lodge, 650 North Mesa Road. The menu includes plain, blueberry, banana, chocolate chip, special variety of the month pancakes and sausage, bacon, eggs, juice and coffee. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 10 and younger.

Mariel Nanasi, executive director of New Energy Economy, will speak on “Securing a future with coal in New Mexico,” at the LASE/Sierra Club meeting at 7 p.m. in media room 203, building two at UNM-LA.

The February meeting of the Los Alamos Master Gardeners will be in the training room of the Community Building, just down the hall from the Extension Office, at 7 p.m. Los Alamos Extension Agent Carlos Valdez will present a program on the Demonstration Garden. For information, call 662-4950.

The Los Alamos Right to Life Committee presents Dauneen Dolce, executive director, from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 8 at Immaculate Heart of Mary’s McLaughlin Hall. Quizno’s and refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. Pro-life friends welcome.
Feb. 15
The premier of Los Alamos resident Samantha Filer’s films, “The Sword of Arundel,” will be at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 715 Diamond Dr. The hour-long film is set in the medieval fantasy kingdom of Arundel and is a story of hope, determination and survival. Filer, now 16, began her project at 13, with a dream a stack of filming books and a five-minute short called “Simple Complications.” The show is free.
Feb. 18
There will be a guided hike of Cerro la Jara, on the Valles Caldera Preserve at 10 a.m. The two-mile snowshoe hike runs from 10 a.m.-noon. Meet at the Valle Grande staging area for registration, snowshoe rentals and hot refreshments. The cost is $20 for Los Amigos members and $25 for non-members.
