The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball team upped its District 2AAAA record to 3-1 with a win over the Capital Jaguars Wednesday. The Hilltoppers knocked off the struggling Jaguars 17-7 at Bomber Field Wednesday, bouncing back from a disappointing nightcap against the Española Valley Sundevils over the weekend. It was Los Alamos’ second win by 10 runs during 2AAAA play, and the fifth time in the last seven games the Hilltoppers have scored in double-digits.Also on Wednesday, the Hilltopper softball team thumped Capital 19-4 at Overlook Park, bouncing back from getting swept Saturday at Española Valley.Wednesday’s win gave Los Alamos’ baseball team sole possession of first-place in the district standings, half a game better than Taos, which Los Alamos beat 10-0 in its 2AAAA opener April 9.On April 23, Los Alamos will travel to Bernalillo to take on the defending district champion Spartans. In their last outing, the Hilltoppers outslugged the Sundevils 12-10 in game one, but were unable to get any consistent offense going and played shoddy defense early to drop game two 6-4.In the 2AAAA softball race, Los Alamos (7-10 overall, 2-2 in district) trails Taos, which it beat April 9, by half a game. Española Valley (10-5, 3-0) leads the 2AAAA standings by one game over the Tigers (3-14, 2-1).Los Alamos was shut out 9-0 in game one Saturday, then blanked 10-0 in game two against the Sundevils, the defending district champs who again this season are considered the team to beat in 2AAAA.Both Capital squads are sitting in the district basement.
