Depending on the weather, the Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball and softball teams are both scheduled to start District 2AAAA play this afternoon at Taos.Both teams were heading up to Taos for 3 p.m. games to open district play, although forecasts were reporting possible snow showers this afternoon.The Hilltopper baseball squad will face a Taos team that has had a solid nondistrict showing, going 9-4-1.In the nondistrict season, however, the Tigers have played teams of dubious quality, their only win over a big school being a 1-0 decision over Roswell (3-13), a doubleheader they split with the Coyotes. The Coyotes nipped the Tigers in the second game, 9-8.Taos has shown the ability to put runs on the board this season, scoring in double-digits seven times. It has allowed nine runs or more three times.Los Alamos (4-9) got off to a slow start this season, dropping four of its first five. But Los Alamos has won twice in its last three outings.The Hilltopper softball team split four games at its Green and Gold Invitational 10 days ago, the last time it hit the field.Los Alamos (5-8) likes its chances to grab one of the top two district spots this season and grab a postseason berth.Española Valley might be the team to beat for the top spot.
