Baseball: WR tops Metro in 9-10 final

The White Rock Little League 9-10 All-Stars came back from a big late hole to top the Santa Fe Metro All-Stars for the District 1 title Friday.


Metro led 7-3 heading into the final inning of the contest, but White Rock came up with five runs in its final at-bat to earn an 8-7 victory at Byers Field.

Down to its final two outs, White Rock batters drew five straight walks, pushing in two runs before back-to-back base hits closed out the contest.

Metro scored four times in the second inning to and another in the third to jump out to a big 7-2 lead after three innings.

White Rock would score a run in the bottom of the fourth to get to within four. In the sixth, Isaiah Archuleta, Griffin Matuszak, Jacob Rutten, Rico Zerr and Kayden Rivera would all come around to score to secure the come-from-behind win.

Rutten, the winning pitcher in the game, came on in relief in the bottom of the third inning and held Metro scoreless the rest of the way.
