The White Rock 9-10 All-Star baseball team will open up play at the state tournament Saturday morning.

The state 9-10 Little League All-Star tournament will be held at Ragsdale Field in Raton.

White Rock, which won the District 1 tournament, held at Overlook Park last weekend, will take on Carlsbad in the first round of the double-elimination state tournament. That game, the first game on the schedule, will be played at 9 a.m.

In all, eight teams are expected to vie for the state 9-10 title.

In the District 1 tournament, White Rock went through without a loss, knocking off Santa Fe Metro 8-7 in the final game.

In that game, White Rock trailed Metro 7-3 coming up for its final two outs. In the bottom of the sixth, White Rock drew five straight walks and came up with two back-to-back hits to take the contest.

Jacob Rutten, who came on in relief in that game, earned the victory by keeping Metro off the scoreboard in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The winner of Saturday morning’s state tournament game will play at 9 a.m Sunday, while the loser will play an elimination game at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The tournament is scheduled to run through at least Thursday. A state title game, if necessary, would be played next Friday.

The state opening ceremonies are scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
