The White Rock All-Stars continue in the winner’s bracket of the District 1 Majors 11-12 tournament tonight.
White Rock scored 36 runs in its first two tournament games to advance to tonight’s contest. That game will start at 6:30 p.m. at Santa Fe’s Alto Park.
White Rock opened its tournament with a 21-9, 4-inning win over Pojoaque Valley Saturday, then topped Pecos 15-4 in five innings Sunday.
Against Pojoaque, White Rock collected 19 hits, nine of them for extra bases.
Franklin Archuleta went 5-for-5 at the plate, knocking in two runs to lead White Rock’s offensive effort.
Nick Capelli had a pair of hits for White Rock and finished the game with four RBI. Tyler Thorn and Jared Mang each drove in three runs Saturday, while Jake Downs drove home two more.
Mang was the starting pitcher in Saturday’s game, throwing 2-1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven hitters.
In Sunday’s contest with Pecos, White Rock broke open a 4-4 tie with 11 runs in the fifth inning.
In the top of the fifth, Thorn singled with the bases loaded to drive in a pair of runs, starting the rally. Capelli followed later in the inning with another two-run base hit.
