The University of New Mexico Lobo baseball team will meet its first playoff opponent, Arizona State University, Friday in Tempe.
The Lobos, fresh off their stunning victory in the Mountain West Conference tournament, will take on the Sun Devils at 8 p.m. Mountain Time in the regional round of the NCAA tournament.
UNM (20-39) is the No. 4 seed in the regional playoffs, which includes top-seeded ASU (39-16), second-seeded Arkansas (38-20) and third-seeded Charlotte (42-14).
UNM made the playoff field by pulling off four consecutive upsets at the MWC tournament. Two of those wins came at the expense of the tournament’s top seed, TCU, including the tournament’s championship game.
