At least one part of the Los Alamos County 60th anniversary celebration won’t be celebrated in Los Alamos County.
But if organizers have their way, the county’s baseball and softball programs will reap some big benefits.
Local baseball and softball organizations are helping to sell tickets for Los Alamos Night at Isotopes Park. The event will be held June 20 at the facility, which is the home of the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Approximately 150 tickets — and possibly more than 500, depending on how many organizers feel they can move — are still for sale and will be available at the county’s 60th anniversary barbecue Friday. The barbecue will start at 5 p.m. Friday at Fuller Lodge. A table will be set up for those interested in purchasing tickets for Los Alamos Night.
Randy Parks, who is supervising the ticket sales, said 1,000 tickets were blocked so they could be sold in Los Alamos County.
As of Wednesday afternoon, approximately 450 had been sold. Parks said organizers may elect to buy 600 tickets from the Isotopes instead of the full 1,000.
“This is the stage of the sale where I start to get nervous,” Parks said, recalling a similar sale he helped organize five years ago. “But things are starting to fall into place.”
Tickets are selling for $9 each.
Additionally, $3 from each ticket sold will go to Los Alamos Little League, White Rock Little League, the Los Alamos High School baseball or the LAHS softball programs. On the ticket order form, buyers can select which of the organizations will benefit from their purchase.
The most popular choice right now, Parks said, was the fifth option, to have the money equally divided among the four entities.
Fund-raising, Parks said, is vital to the overall health of youth sports in the county and was thankful the Albuquerque squad agreed to help the effort.
“The Isotopes are a classy organization,” he said. “They’re really good to work with.”
The June 20 festivities are shaping up to be a true Los Alamos Night.
A Los Alamos singer will perform the National Anthem prior to the game and former members of Pierotti’s Clowns, a famous 5-man fastpitch softball team from Los Alamos, will be on-hand for the ceremonial first pitch.
Longtime Los Alamos resident Lou Pierotti, who served as the team’s manager throughout its 25 years of existence, is scheduled to toss the first pitch.
Los Alamos has tickets reserved in sections 201, 203 and 205 at Isotopes Park, which are on the top deck on the third-base side of the field.
Game time for Los Alamos Night at Isotopes Park, in which the Isotopes will play the Omaha Royals, is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
