Baseball drops two to Spartans
The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader Saturday.
Los Alamos was nipped by the visiting Bernalillo Spartans 3-2 in game one, then in a game pitting mostly the less-experienced players on both squads, the Spartans took a 21-6 win.
The win in game one Saturday sealed the District 2AAAA championship for the Spartans, their second straight district title.
Los Alamos (11-14, 7-5), however, will still advance to the state Class AAAA tournament.
Brackets for the AAAA state tournament are due to be released today on the New Mexico Activities Association’s website, www.nmact.org.
Softball wins big, clinches spot at state
The Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team blasted the Bernalillo Spartans in a pair of home games Saturday.
Los Alamos blanked Bernalillo 10-0 in the first game, then cruised to an 18-9 win in the nightcap.
The win in game one sealed a trip to the Class AAAA state tournament for Los Alamos. It finished second in 2AAAA play with a mark of 9-3 (14-11 overall).
