The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball and softball teams, as expected, were big winners over the Capital Jaguars Saturday.
Los Alamos swept all four games from the Jaguars in Saturday’s doubleheaders. The softball team won 16-9, 16-0 and the baseball team crushed the Jaguars 27-0, 20-0.
For the Hilltopper baseball team, the win in game one officially wrapped up the District 2-4A title, their fourth straight district crown. Following the team’s extra-innings win Wednesday at Española Valley, it needed just one win in any of the three remaining game with Capital (0-18), which has scored a grand total of 37 runs in 2012.
The two totals for the Hilltopper baseball team were the most runs it has scored in any contests this season.
Los Alamos (18-6) has one more game remaining with Capital scheduled for Friday. That contest is a make-up from a snowed-out game earlier this month and will be the finale of the Hilltoppers’ regular season.
Likewise, the Hilltopper softball team (18-5) roughed up a winless Jaguars’ club (0-22) — all other 2-4A teams were at least four games above .500 heading into this weekend.
Los Alamos finishes up its district season with a record of 11-1, earning its third consecutive district title with an 11-0 win over Española Valley, a game which Monika Teter faced just one batter over the minimum for a five-inning no-hitter.
Los Alamos has playoff warm-up games this week against Kirtland Central and Piedra Vista from the powerful District 1-4A, those coming Tuesday and Saturday.
