Both Los Alamos County Juniors All-Star teams advanced in the winners’ bracket of the District 1 tournament Saturday.
The Los Alamos Little League All-Stars thumped the Santa Fe All-Stars 14-4 in the first game of the tournament Saturday morning, while the White Rock Little League All-Stars broke open a tight game late, taking a 10-1 decision over Pojoaque Valley.
Those two teams will meet today at 1 p.m. They play at Virchow Field, with the winner advancing to play for the tournament title and the right to go to the state All-Star tournament.
Also today, Pojoaque Valley and Santa Fe will meet in an elimination game. The winner of that game, which will start at 4 p.m. in White Rock, will meet the loser of the Los Alamos-White Rock game Monday.
The tournament will continue through at least Tuesday, and possibly run through Wednesday at Virchow Field.
Los Alamos 14, Santa Fe 4
Los Alamos’ All-Stars went up big early in their opening round game and cruised to victory Saturday.
Los Alamos led by a count of 8-0 after 3-1/2 innings against Santa Fe’s All-Stars, then scored six times in the final two innings to put the contest out of reach. A too little, too late rally in the bottom of the seventh was most of the offense Santa Fe could muster in the contest.
