The Los Alamos Senior All-Stars had little trouble dispatching Santa Fe in game one on the two teams’ three-game set Saturday.

Zeke Zumbro threw five innings of 1-hit ball and got plenty of offensive support as Los Alamos rolled to a 18-0 win at Bomber Field.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, also at Bomber Field. Should Los Alamos win, it would take the District 1 title. Should Santa Fe prevail, the two teams would meet Monday for the right to move on to the state tournament.

Unless Santa Fe can turn things around in a hurry, however, a third game doesn’t seem likely.

Not only did Santa Fe’s offense pick up just the one hit of Zumbro, it managed to get just one runner even as far as third base. On defense, Santa Fe dropped three routine pop flies and made numerous other defensive blunders to aid Los Alamos in putting up some big numbers.

Los Alamos scored three runs in the top of the first, added four more in the second and five in the third to take the commanding lead.

Austin Aslin finished 4-for-5 Saturday, driving in three runs and scoring four more. Billy Cooper, JD Weiss and Zumbro all finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

On the mound, Zumbro struck out nine in his five-inning complete game. He allowed just two free passes in the contest.

Except for Zumbro, Los Alamos has a full slate of pitchers available for today’s game.
