The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball team earned its fourth lopsided victory of the season against the Santa Fe Demons Wednesday.
Los Alamos blanked Santa Fe 13-0 Wednesday at Bomber Field, holding onto its top spot in the District 2-4A title race. Los Alamos improved its district record to 8-1 and can wrap up a district title against the Española Valley Sundevils Saturday.
In four meetings this season — one of which occurred in a nondistrict contest at the St. Pius X Invitational and doesn’t count in the district standings — the Hilltoppers outscored Santa Fe’s Demons 58-3. The Hilltoppers swept a 2-4A doubleheader at Santa Fe earlier this month by counts of 16-2 and 16-0.
The Demons, who had been a solid team in Class 5A for the past several seasons before dropping down to Class 4A this season, were thought to be a potential district title contender, but Wednesday’s loss dropped them 2-7 in the district standings (4-18 overall).
Los Alamos, meanwhile, is seeking its third straight district title this season, but still may have to contend with the Sundevils, who stunned Bernalillo 10-9 April 13 to jump right into the thick of the race.
The Sundevils had a district game scheduled against Capital Wednesday. The results of that game hadn’t been reported as of press time, but the hapless Capital Jaguars haven’t shown themselves to be a threat to any of the other four district teams.
Los Alamos’ win over Santa Fe also put the team over the .500 mark (11-10) for the first time in 2011.
