The Albuquerque Isotopes will host the Memphis Redbirds in the first round of the Pacific Coast League playoffs starting Wednesday night.

The Isotopes and the Redbirds (77-67) will face off at Isotopes Park for games 1 and 2 of the series.

The best-of-five series shifts sites to Memphis’ AutoZone Park for the final three games Friday, Saturday (if necessary) and Sunday (if necessary.

Albuquerque won the 2009 PCL American South Division championship going away. Albuquerque topped Oklahoma City by 11 games in its division while posting a record of 80-64, the second-best mark in the PCL.

The winner of the Isotopes-Redbirds series will take on the winner between Colorado Springs (73-69), champion of the PCL Pacific North Division, and Sacramento, the PCL Pacific South Division winner.

Sacramento finished with a league-best record of 86-57.

Scheduled starting pitchers for Wednesday’s game are Albuquerque left-hander Eric Stults (5-4, 5.20 ERA) and Memphis lefty Jaime Garcia (2-0, 3.86).

Wednesday’s game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start time.

This will be the first time the Isotopes have made the postseason since 2003, their first year in the Duke City.

For the effort, Isotopes’ first-season manager Tim Wallach was named the PCL’s Manager of the Year. Wallach is the first Isotopes manager to be so honored.
