The two top-seeded teams in the county’s Class AAA Little League tournament took each other on in the championship game with the Dodgers pulling out a late victory Wednesday night.
The Giants led by as many as five runs in Wednesday’s game, played at Lou Caveglia Field on North Mesa, but the Dodgers scored six unanswered runs in the final two innings for the win.
Logan Bishop’s sixth inning hit with the bases loaded gave the Dodgers a 8-7 come-from-behind victory over the Giants. Just an inning before, Jason Manzanares hit a bases-clearing triple to push three runs across and get the Dodgers back into the ballgame.
The Giants, who went down 2-0 early in the contest, scored twice in the top of the fourth, with Jakob Castille, Jacob Benelli and Robbie Carter coming through with three straight hits. The Giants then rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth to go up 7-2 before the Dodgers made their late-game comeback.
After several big offensive showings throughout the tournament, the championship game ended up being one of the best-pitched games.
