For some people, it’s a hobby – a real passion. They set the alarm so they can cruise the streets early to look for the perfect spot and beat the crowds.

For those who love garage sales, it is not just about getting a certain item but also achieving the perfect price.

From 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 24, these bargain hunters will get the deal of a lifetime.

First Baptist Church is hosting a garage sale where everything from the clothing to furniture is free.

The inventory from the garage sale is made up of mostly gently used clothing and furniture that the congregation or individuals donated to the event, organizer Kevin Jenkins said.

Not only can people leave their wallets at home, but the event will offer other features such as bounce houses, games, free food, sno-cones and giveaways.

The event started three years ago and was inspired by similar events congregation members had experienced at other churches.

The whole idea of the event, Jenkins said, is to give back to the community. The objective is “really just being able to interact with the community (and) meet their needs,” he said. “Our heart is just to give to the community and this is just one of the practical ways we can do that.”
