There are a variety of opportunities ahead where you can support youth. It gets even better when it involves eating.
Your first chance is Thursday night, when the Los Alamos High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp hosts brisket night.
This cadre of cadets will set up, sell and serve — all in the name of fundraising to make themselves and their unit even better.
Brisket night is a monthly event that takes place at the Posse Lodge and will be at 5:30 p.m.
The food fest includes tender, slow roasted brisket, potato salad, baked beans, a roll, cookie and drink for $10.
The funds allow the NJROTC teams to travel to competition and compete in a variety of activities from inspection and drill to shooting and using their mad skills in the Brain Bowl.
Our second group of fundraising young people is our local girl scouts. These pint-sized entrepreneurs will host booths at our neighborhood Smith’s stores, to sell a host of baked goodies, from low-fat to full decadence.
If counting calories is high on your list, take them up on their option to send treats to troops or buy a few boxes to drop off at our local teen center.
The quicker these young ladies unload their supplies, the sooner they can get back to earning their badges and advancing to the next level.
