Aspen Santa Fe Ballet announces its 2013 Summer Season, July 12-Aug. 31 with performances at The Lensic Performing Arts Center.
Continually steering contemporary ballet into new territory through their dedication to commissioning innovative choreography, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet will perform two diverse programs featuring work by both established and newly discovered choreographers.
8 p.m., July 12 and 13
The first program is a sampling of choreographers and dance styles.
Featuring brand-new work by Spanish choreographer Cayetano Soto and ASFB’s newest discovery, Norbert De La Cruz (whose piece Square None had the dance-world buzzing last year), as well as Trey McIntyre’s cheeky Like a Samba; the program showcases ASFB’s commitment to innovative new work.
“This small and ambitious company commissions pieces from little known dance makers and helps those artists develop. This is noble and necessary work.” — The New York Times
8 p.m., Aug. 31
For the final performance, retiring dancer Katie Dehler will be showcased in a program highlighting her talent, eloquence and artistry. As a muse for many choreographers over the years, Dehler has set the bar for artistic excellence and creativity inherent in Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. Jorma Elo’s Over Glow, a richly choreographed ballet with stunning duets, Nicolo Fonte’s contemplative Where We Left Off.
“Simply breathtaking…” Hedy Weiss, The Chicago Sun Times
