The Art Center at Fuller Lodge (ACFL) wants you, Los Alamos resident, to know that art is alive and well in town, and we’d like to see more of you indulging in the visual feast.
Soon all area residents will receive a call to join in the time honored tradition of art patronage. Although the Art Center in its present form has been serving the community of Los Alamos for more than 30 years, many in Los Alamos are not aware of the existence of this cultural entity.
Of the nearly 400 dues paying members, only 250 are Los Alamos residents. Beginning in January, the Art Center will undertake a serious effort to recruit a larger local membership base.
ACFL’s Biennial Membership Drive and Raffle culminates with a Gourmet Dessert Social and Donor Recognition on April 11.
Between January and March, the Art Center will mail each household a membership/raffle ticket order form with the hopes of increasing membership as well as drawing more residents to visit the Art Center.
Mailings will be done in January, February and March, with one-third of the population receiving the offer each mailing. Residents of Los Alamos will be able to purchase raffle tickets for a variety of items totaling more than $8,000 in value.
Those who make tax-deductible membership donations will receive complimentary raffle tickets as a thank you. The Art Center is not an organization for artists only, but is open to anyone interested in supporting the culture and quality of life in Los Alamos County.
The Art Center at Fuller Lodge is a nonprofit organization operating under a contract with the county to provide visual arts education, arts in social services and opportunities for area artists. In addition to the Affordable Art Sale held during the Christmas Holiday Season, the Art Center mounts eight exhibitions during the year, with more than 178 artists showing their work in 2008.
The Art Center also sponsors two major arts and crafts fairs each year. One is hosted on the Fuller Lodge Lawn during the rodeo in August and the other is held in the Los Alamos Middle School the last weekend in October.
The Gallery Shop offers handmade quality arts and crafts year round. The education program of the Art Center features arts and crafts classes for children, youth and adults in the fall and spring.
During June and July each year, the Summer Art Camp attracts several hundred children from the community and is taught by experienced teachers with assistance from high school and college student art interns.
Income from membership donations helps fund Art Center activity. Current members have donated a variety of items for the raffle fundraiser, and to serve as incentives to attract new members.
The raffle prize items include a digital camera, tickets to the Santa Fe Opera in 2009, massages at the Encantado Resort spa in Tesuque, Mata Ortiz pottery and framed quality art work. A single raffle ticket without membership is $20; with an individual membership of $35 a raffle ticket is included. Multiple raffle tickets accompany a family membership of $45 and higher membership levels.
The ACFL Board has upgraded membership benefits and added corporate memberships in the form of bronze, silver and gold categories.
