Crime > LAPD is investigating suspects

By Tris DeRoma

The Los Alamos Police Department is currently investigating a rash of mail thefts in the area. Although none have occurred in Los Alamos yet, they did say thefts occurred in White Rock, Española and Santa Fe.

Police are currently investigating suspects.

Police are also recommending residents take precautions when sending money through the mail.

They said either drop bills off in the large drop-off bin at the post office or if possible, pay
bills online.

“Whatever you put in that mailbox, anybody has access to it,” said Preston Ballew, public information officer for the LAPD. “I would take precautions and take your bills down to the local post office.”

According to Det. Paige Early, thieves have stolen or attempted to steal thousands of dollars through this latest series of incidents.

If you feel you’ve been a victim of this type of crime, you can contact Early at 662-8274 or call the dispatch office at 662-8222. Police officials also add that if you see any suspicious activity, call the police department to report it.
