The county's homeless pet population is a step closer to getting new digs after Tuesday night's Council meeting. County councilors passed a motion awarding RFP No. 2009-1653 to the team of Klinger Constructors, LLC and Mullen Heller Architecture PC for the construction of an animal shelter at 246 East Road.
Though three of the seven councilors were out of town a quorum of four, consisting of Councilors Frances Berting, Ken Milder, Robert Gibson and Michael Wheeler, unanimously passed the motion. The motion was moved by Councilor Wheeler and seconded by Councilor Berting.
The motion awards Klinger Constructors, LLC and Mullen Heller Architecture PC $933,535 plus applicable gross receipts tax for the construction of the proposed animal shelter; and asks that a project budget in the amount of $1,278,380 be established. The motion also directed staff to return to Council with an associated budget revision to formally revise the Animal Shelter Project Budget. Councilor Wheeler further moved that Council authorize the County Administrator to execute the associated design-build contract documentation in a form acceptable to the county attorney.
