The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, 662-8179, has a great selection of onsite adoptable pets waiting for their forever home. Others are currently off-campus in loving foster homes.
Be sure to visit the Friends of the Shelter website, lafos.org, where you can get more information about volunteering, adopting and donating. Also check out the Petfinder page for pictures and to learn more about all of the adoptable pets, petfinder.com/shelters/friendsoftheshelter.html.
This would be a wonderful time to consider giving a home to one of the animals in the shelter. Open Sunday, Monday, but closed Tuesday. Happy holidays from Friends of the Shelter and the shelter staff. All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, have their shots and are micro chipped.
Coqueta — A three-year-old Golden-mix. She is smart, confident, energetic and loves people. She is good with smaller and younger dogs, kids and does very well in crowds. Spayed, shots and micro chipped.
Remy — Spayed female, Lab/Shepherd-mix with a pretty red coat. She is good with some dogs, not others. No cats or small dogs, please. She would love a home where she will get lots of exercise. She has some crate training. She is shy but ready to be trained.
Reggie, Fly and Romper — Border Collie-mix puppy siblings. Seven-months-old, neutered/spayed and up-to-date on shots.
Svari — Six-month-old small yellow dog. Rescued from an abusive home and nursed back to health, this little girl has just been spayed and is ready for a loving home. Needs some help with housebreaking. Very sweet, loves to be cuddled.
Pongo — Five-year-old Pekingese. This little guy has had a rough time. He had a skin condition that the shelter has been treating. He is so much better and will be up with the other dogs later this week. A friendly little guy that loves children and does well with other dogs. Housebroken.
Max — Handsome one-and-a-half-year-old red male Husky. Reported to be quite the escape artist when he wants to see other dogs and people. We have an offer for a consultation on working with Huskies for a new adopter.
Gracie — Ten to 12-year-old Cocker Spaniel. Rescued off the street and brought back to health by a good neighbor. Not great with other dogs, but a good companion for a quiet family.
We have some young kittens in foster care. When they are old enough for shots and sterilization, they will either return to the shelter care or be adopted from foster family.
Lizzie —Long-haired Blue Russian declawed female. Good with dogs, other cats and gentle children.
Mo — Very soft, three-year-old spayed female Tabby/Tortie surrendered for adoption with her friend Ralphie. Neither one cares for dogs or boisterous children. Mo and Ralphie are now circulating in the cat room and enjoy the attention of volunteers.
Ralphie — Three-year-old, lovely, soft, domestic short-hair spayed female Tabby/Tortie, given for adoption with her friend Mo. Ralphie was shy at first, but now comes out for shelter volunteers to pet and admire her. She is reported to not care for dogs.
County ordinance requires that a roaming animal be kept for 10 days waiting for owners to claim it. Keep those tags on your pets so they can come home to you quickly.
