Also, be sure to check out the website at lafos.org, for more information about volunteering, adopting and donating, as well as read up on some favorite animals and learn more about special needs animals, or cats and dogs currently in foster care.
All adoptable pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Chuchu — A beautiful, neutered, male, ridgeback cross, two and a 1/2 years old. This big guy is sensitive and a little shy with strangers, but is very loyal to those he learns to trust. He is happy to have some K9 friends and would like to learn how to take leash walks. He is very good with children. For a personalized introduction, call his sponsor at 433-8617.
Cedar — A year old male collie mix. A “fun and games” dog that is energetic and needs exercise and mental stimulation. He is also very cuddly and seems to do very well with female dogs.
Dallas — A year old, spayed, female, German Shepherd cross. She came into the shelter very frightened, but she has made great progress with the work of shelter volunteers. In fact, she recently went to the dog park and played for over an hour with a chocolate lab that was there! She is still a little scared of new people, and would probably be best in a home without children. Dallas loves training and taking walks and would love a job. She likes to play with the big boy dogs. For a personalized introduction to Dallas, call her sponsor at 505-0790.
Honi — A 5-month-old, female, miniature, pinscher puppy who started out pretty frightened at the shelter. She is receiving a lot of love and gentle socialization from the volunteers and has turned into a cuddle bug. A little shy and submissive, but loves people and wants to get to know them. Honi is currently in foster care, call the shelter to get contact information for Honi’s foster family.
Nanook — A handsome, pale gold, neutered male Alaskan husky with dark points and a lovely black nose. He is about 9 months old. Originally obtained from a breeder with two of his littermates. He needs a tall fence, as a four-foot fence is well within his jumping skills. He is also reported to have some excavation skills, so will need a dig-proof fence. Nanook is very friendly with adults, gentle children and dogs. Due to his size, small children might be overwhelmed. He chases cats. Nanook likes leash walks and is ready to attend obedience classes with his new family.
Reggie — A 16-month-old, Border Collie mix who would love a dog friend to play with! With patience and consistency, Reggie has really blossomed at the shelter, and his goofy, gangly legs make the volunteers laugh. A dog friend would really help him settle in to his new home. Reggie has been patiently waiting many months for his new home, and has his paws crossed that someone falls in love with him soon! Call 412-2074 for information.
Sheila – A friendly, 2-year-old, tan, female who is housebroken, crate trained, has some obedience training and just loves to play and go for hikes. She behaves very nicely on a leash and in a car. Sheila wants adult companionship, because children frighten her. She also needs a good fence for those times alone, so she doesn’t exercise her climbing, excavation, or agility jumping skills. For a personalized introduction to this sweet dog, call her sponsor at 231-1744.
Sweet Pea — A 2-year-old, female, brindle, lab/pit mix. A very sweet and friendly dog. Easy to handle, no food guarding. Calm, friendly, snuggly — a true cuddle bug. Enjoys leash walking, but sometimes does not like to meet other dogs on walks. Does well with many dogs at the shelter. No cats. Sweet Pea is crate trained and knows some obedience commands. She is currently in foster care, call the shelter to get contact information for Sweet Pea’s foster family.
Sakari — A pretty, silver and gray, Alaska husky, spayed, female, 9 months old. Originally obtained from a breeder with two of her littermates. She needs a tall fence, as a four-foot fence is well within her jumping skills. She is also reported to have some excavation skills, so will need a dig-proof fence. Sakari is very friendly with adults, gentle children and dogs. She chases cats. Sakari responds very well to training and leash walking. She is ready to attend obedience classes with her new family.
Trooper – Trooper is a young, neutered, male cocker spaniel mix who was just surrendered on Sept. 11 when the owner’s landlord said no dogs were allowed in the rental home. Trooper’s vet care has been updated. He is a very friendly little guy.
Willow – A spayed, female, Australian cattle dog mix who would love a home that provides her with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Willow is a very happy girl who loves to run off energy at the dog park.
Kittens — Several 3-5 month-old kittens in foster care for socialization. The shelter will update on when they will be ready for adoption.
Sarabi — A 2-year-old, gray and white, female that is very bonded to her friend Owl. She is a bit more outgoing than Owl, and she would love for you to come see how soft her fur is! She would love to find a new home with her buddy Owl.
Owl — A 2-year-old, female, calico that is very bonded to her friend Sarabi. She is a bit shy of new people, but quickly warms up, especially if you have a toy that she likes to play with! She is reported to do well with adults, older kids and other cats. She would love to find a new home with her buddy Sarabi! Both Owl and Sarabi have been trained to use a scratching post rather than furniture, so be sure to provide some scratching posts for them!
Note: Because Owl and Sarabi are so bonded, we are offering a two for one adoption fee to make sure that these beautiful kitties can go to their new forever home together!
Momma — This friendly, dilute, tortie is
7 years old was surrendered for being “too fat” — poor thing! She’s hoping to find a home that loves her no matter what her size might be. She was reported to be bossy around other cats, but she seems to be doing fine with other cats in the communal room, as long as she has a big, comfy bed to call her own. She loves to be the center of attention, and she purrs so loudly when you pick her up that you can hear her across the room! Momma is now spayed, but she was taken in as a stray with her litter of kittens, one of whom was Inky, who was also surrendered. She would love to be adopted with her son.
Inky — This all black, neutered male was taken in as a stray when he was found with his mom, Momma. His siblings were adopted, but Inky has lived with his mom for all six years of his life and would love to be adopted with her if possible. He was also surrendered for being “too fat,” but the shelter volunteers think he’s a pretty darn cute fatty cat! He can be a bit shy around men and takes some time to warm up to new places, but is reported to do well with other cats, especially Momma!
Note: Ask about a two for one special if you are interested in adopting both Inky and Momma.
Raja — This young, neutered, male is a friendly, black and gray, tabby with striking golden eyes. Less than a year old, he loves toys and needs a place for energetic play. He wants human interaction.
Shyanne — This very pretty, 4-year-old, spayed, female Siamese mix is looking for a quiet home where she can be the only pet. Her family is very sad to part with her, but the stress of sharing a home with other cats has affected her health. Shyanne’s veterinary care is up to date, and she needs insulin twice a day. A less active home will probably make her diabetes easier to manage. To meet Shyanne in foster care call 412-0700.
Sparkle — This handsome, flame point, neutered, male, older kitten was trapped as part of an outdoor colony and now hoping to learn to live with people.
Qasar — A cute black and white neutered male older kitten, trapped as part of an outdoor colony and now hoping to learn to live with people.
• A cute little white neutered male dog found roaming in White Rock. Possibly a Dachshund/Jack Russell mix. Ask for French Fry.
