SHELTER HOURS: Noon to 6 p.m. Monday – Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekends.
Also, be sure to check out the website at lafos.org, to get more information about volunteering, adopting and donating.
All adoptable pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Miko and Kita are both 4 years old and were surrendered when their family moved. Miko is a tabby cat with some white, and Kita is all black. Kita had some complications following her spay surgery, so volunteers are still learning more about these two. Stay turned for more information!
Hannah is a 1-year-old gray and white spayed female who is as soft as can be! She was found roaming on Tewa Loop with her buddy Henry, but these two cute kitties were never claimed and are now ready for a forever home. Hannah is very mellow and loves ear scratches and a soft bed to cuddle in.
Silver is a 1-year-old gray and white spayed female kitty. She had really bad ear mites when she was younger, so one of her ears is folded down, giving her a cute, playful look at all times! She loves people and has a cute little chirp that she lets out when she wants to be petted. Since she is still young, she has lots of energy and loves to play! She can be a little bit hissy with other cats if they approach her too quickly, but she is doing fine in the cat room and would probably do well as part of a multi-cat household.
Stormy is a beautiful neutered male 3-year-old flame point Siamese. Since having his teeth cleaned and bladder stones removed, Stormy has warmed up to visitors and now enjoys affection. Stormy eats Science Diet S/O, easily purchased for a low cost at the veterinarian’s office. Stormy is a bit sensitive and would prefer a home with older, quiet children who will respect his boundaries. He does seem to get along with some cats in the cat room, especially those who are older and mellow.
Snickety – DECLAWED – INDOOR ONLY. Snickety is a beautiful, long-haired Himalayan neutered male, 10 years old. He was surrendered due to territorial issues with the other cat in the house. Himalyans frequently prefer not to share their people, but Snickety is coping very well in the communal cat room. Perhaps a mellow female cat would be a tolerable companion. Snickety is so soft and very loving. Currently, Snickety is at Ridgeview Vet and being treated for a bladder stone, so if you are interested in adopting him, be sure to call the shelter first to see if he’s back from the vet yet. He will most likely have to eat a Science Diet S/O diet, which can be purchased for a low price at the vet’s office.
Handly – INDOOR ONLY. Handly is an adult, grey tabby and white neutered male. His leg was caught in a gopher trap and had to be amputated, so he is now a tripod! Tripod cats make wonderful pets and get around very well. Because he can’t run quite as fast as he used to though, he needs to be an indoor cat only. Handly will probably do OK with other cats, but might take a little while to adjust. He has a very loud meow, and he will let you know when he wants attention! Younger children might be too much for Handly.
Spookey and Cupcake are two 4 month old kittens who were recently surrendered. Spookey is black and white, and Cupcake is mostly white with some gorgeous calico markings. They will be available for adoption following vetting.
Kittens — We currently have a few kittens in foster care, and they will be ready for adoption in a few weeks, once they are old enough to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Please check back in a few weeks if you are interested in adding a kitten to your family.
Scarlet is still missing! Scarlet is an 8-year-old spayed female black and white Husky. She recently escaped from the shelter and is missing, but volunteers and shelter staff hold out hope of finding her due to recent sightings. We had a report on July 10 that she was sighted near the high school. She is extremely shy. If seen, do not approach but please contact Sally at 412-3451 or the shelter at 662-8179. You may also call police dispatch at 662-8222.
Chip is a small bulldog mix who was just surrendered. She is 2 years old, and she walks great on a leash and loves cuddles. Her family just didn’t have time for this cute, petite girl, and Chip is keeping her paws crossed for a new family that will love her affectionate nature and constantly wagging tail!
Texas is a 3-year-old neutered male cattle dog mix. He is very active, people friendly and probably friendly with female dogs. He has lots of energy and loves to go for walks and runs. Texas is very housebroken, and shelter volunteers try to make sure that he goes out as much as possible, to work off all of that energy and let him get lots of potty breaks.
Chaco is a 1-1/2- year-old Doberman-boxer mix who has the long, lean Doberman body shape but the honey brown color of a boxer. He can be a bit protective of his yard when left out alone all day, so he would like a home where he can be indoors. For a personal introduction to Chaco, please call his sponsor at 505-501-0790.
Eskimo is an 8-year-old spayed female malamute mix who was found roaming near the back gate. The county and Friends of the Shelter have taken care of Eskimo’s veterinary needs. She loves to go for rides in the car, needs leash walks, and wants human company. She would be best in an adult home that is familiar with malamutes. For a personalized introduction to this nice girl, please contact her sponsor at 505-231-1744.
Kona is a 4–year-old spayed female German shepherd mix. She was surrendered due to not tolerating the excessive attention of the young child in the household (who can blame her?). She would prefer a home with no kids, as she gets a little nervous in new situations and prefers gentle pets and attention on her own terms. On the leash, Kona walks like the gentle lady that she is.
German shepherd found roaming on 7/31 on 33rd Street.
