-A A +A

The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, 662-8179, has a great selection of onsite adoptable pets waiting for their forever home. Others are currently off-campus in loving foster homes.
Be sure to visit the Friends of the Shelter website, lafos.org, where you can get more information about volunteering, adopting and donating. Also check out the Petfinder page for pictures and to learn more about all of the adoptable pets, petfinder.com/shelters/friendsoftheshelter.html.
This would be a wonderful time to consider giving a home to one of the animals in the shelter.
All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, have their shots and are micro chipped.

Autumn —This spayed female is one of those rare breed that doesn’t come around very often ... a New Mexico Brown Dog. She is housebroken. She can be friends with big dogs. She will sometimes act quite feisty on a leash, but her behavior is correctable with proper training/management.
Barclay — Four-year-old small terrier-mix that came to the shelter when his owner died. He is a friendly little guy that is good with kids and has lived with cats.
Max — Handsome 1.5-year-old male Husky. Reported to be quite the escape artist when he wants to see other dogs and people. We have an offer for a consultation on working with Huskies for a new adopter. Must have a home that understands Huskies.
Maxwell — Just a little more than a year old, neutered male cattle dog-mix. Given for adoption to a home where someone will spend some time to exercise him and continue basic training. Young and energetic. Housebroken and leash trained. Good with adults, gentle children, most other dogs. Has not lived with cats.
Maynard —Handssome Visla-mix. Sleek, red coat with white markings. Very friendly boy. Will be vetted Monday and be ready for his new home after that.
Pongo —Five-year-old male Pomeranian-mix. This little guy has had a rough time. He had a skin condition that the shelter has been treating. He is so much better and is now up front with the other dogs. A friendly little guy that loves children and does well with other dogs. Housebroken, loves to go for walks.
Reggie, Fly and Romper — Border Collie-mix puppy siblings. Seven-months-old, neutered/spayed and up-to-date on shots.
Remy — Spayed female, Lab/Shepherd-mix with a pretty red coat. She is good with big dogs. No cats or small dogs, please. Remy is a gentle, shy creature that will respond to love and patience. She would love a home where she will get lots of exercise. She has some crate training.

We have some young kittens in foster care. When they are old enough for shots and sterilization, they will either return to the shelter care or be adopted from foster family.
Sanjay —Domestic long-hair dark grey Tabby given for adoption with Arnie. Still grieving the loss of his home and feeling overwhelmed at the shelter.
Yoda — A handsome orange Tabby with cut tufts on his ears. Sensitive and affectionate six-year-old neutered male. Can be possessive of his person, so recommended as a loving companion to an adult. Does not want to share with cats, dogs or children. When you pet Yoda, you will enjoy the feel of a very sleek and solid cat.

County ordinance requires that a roaming animal be kept for 10 days waiting for owners to claim it. Keep those tags on your pets so they can come home to you quickly.
