Soccer: Christensen gets 4A boys 2nd team honor

Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer player Amy Neal was named the 2011 Class 4A Player of the Year by NMSoccer.com.
Neal, the top-scoring player in 4A this season, was given the honor following the state playoffs. Neal led Los Alamos to a district title and a trip to the state playoff semifinals before the Hilltoppers were knocked out by eventual champion Albuquerque Academy.
In 2011, Neal, a junior, finished with 33 goals, which led Class 4A and trailed only three other players in the entire state. She also had 19 assists – second in 4A behind only Academy’s MacKenzie Miller – to finish with 85 total points, 14 points better than Caroline Growney of Academy.
Along with Neal, Hilltopper Leslie Guarello was named to the All-State first team by the website. Guarello, also a junior, finished third on the team with 21 total points. Namoi Movshovich and Cassidy Reeves were given 4A second team honors while seven other Hilltoppers were selected as Honorable Mentions.
For the boys, Cooper Christensen was named to the 4A second team, while Zeke Zumbro, Nick Thoma and Ryan Maestas were given Honorable Mention nods.
The Hilltopper boys advanced to the 4A playoffs this year as well but fell in the first round to Piedra Vista.
The 4A boys Player of the Year was Ricardo Perez-Contreras from state runner-up Belen. Perez-Contreras finished with 132 points on the season, 50 more than anyone else in the state.
Belen’s Eagles finished the regular season undefeated but were upset by Farmington in the state 4A championship game. Farmington picked up six All-State first team slots while Farmington’s Felix Chacon was named Coach of the Year.
