SANTA FE (AP) – An anonymous tip led police officers to a Los Alamos apartment where they caught a young man believed to be involved in a string of crimes in Santa Fe.
A Los Alamos police officer confirmed the identity of the 17-year-old Shalom Katz, the alleged “ninja” burglar, on Saturday afternoon.
Katz was arrested for concealing his identity, two days after he fled his Santa Fe home as officers were en route to arrest him.
Police say the teenage fugitive dressed as a ninja and used a hatchet to rob a jewelry store.
They also suspect Katz in an auto burglary that took place six days after the jewelry heist.
Police had issued a warrant last week for his arrest on a burglary charge.
Katz has a juvenile record that includes aggravated burglary and armed robbery.
