Tuesday is shaping up to be a punishing day for residents of the Los Alamos area. About seven to 10 inches of snow fell last night, followed by howling winds this morning--some gusts reaching 50 miles per hour.
Power outages have been reported in various neighborhoods and travel remains treacherous. The winter storm warning expires this afternoon at 4 p.m.
Los Alamos Public Schools cancelled classes for the day and administration offices are also closed. The school board meeting scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. Additionally, the Los Alamos National Labratory is closed.
Some businesses are open, but you should call ahead to confirm as travel remains hazardous.
