Lee Sanchez is in position to defend his Atomic City Invitational title with a big win.
In Sunday's final of the Atomic City Invitational match-play tournament, reigning champion Sanchez will go up against another former ACI winner, Cale Jones. Tee-off in the 27-hole final event is slated for 7:30 a.m.
Also in tournament play Saturday, Nick Silva won the senior men's title, clinching the win with a solid 6 and 5 victory over Fred Robinson. Also Saturday, Martha Waters picked up the women's ACI crown by topping Lynne Taylor 3 and 2.
For Waters, it was her first ACI victory since 2002. Waters shot even-par on the front nine Saturday en route to the win.
In the senior men's flight, Silva knocked off two-time defending champion Eddie Sanchez Friday, then came back Saturday to shoot a 2-under par through 13 holes.
In the men's championship flight, Lee Sanchez rolled to a 5 and 4 victory over Ted Ball to earn his second straight trip to the final round.
Ball, the sixth-seed in the men's draw, had a solid run in the ACI, knocking off Warren Finch in the opener then upsetting 2008 runner-up Jason Norman in the quarterfinal round 2 and 1.
Sanchez will face off against the fifth-seeded Jones, who needed an extra hole on his way to upsetting second seed Curt Norman in Saturday's semifinal.
The 19-hole victory for Jones came just one day after going the full 18 holes with Brad King, a minor upset as well.
Jones is a two-time ACI champion, having won in 2002 and 2005. Sanchez has won the tournament three times, including twice in the late 1990s.
