Accident snarls evening commute

It was a rough commute for those heading off the Hill Thursday as an accident has closed one lane of traffic on N.M. 502 heading east.

One vehicle landed on its roof and there were two cars parked with hazard lights on in front of the crumpled vehicle. There did not appear to be anybody in the vehicle, but a woman was talking on her cellphone as emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

Los Alamos Police and Fire Departments were on the scene. In cases like these, usually, the Santa Fe Sheriff's Department or Bureau of Indian Affairs investigate the crash.

Later, deputy chief Justin Grider said there was one person being transported to a hospital.

Traffic was backed up about a mile and the accident was about a mile north of the Totavi Gas Station.
