SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A credit union says hundreds of people who used a debit card at a Santa Fe gas station may have had their personal financial information stolen.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Del Norte Credit Union officials said Wednesday that debit cards of up to 700 members may be compromised.
Del Norte President and CEO Chuck Valenti says a small, electronic device that skims data was used to obtain information from cardholders buying gas at a Giant Service Station between March 20 and March 24.
Valenti says 20 cardholders have reported fraudulent purchases or cash withdrawals.
Valenti says Del Norte has since closed those accounts and issued new ones.
Santa Fe police spokeswoman Celina Westervelt says it's possible customers with other banks may be victims as well.
