Line failure disrupts power

   At approximately

2:19 p.m. Wednesday a section of underground line failed at the Trinity Site causing a power outage for 549 customers for 5 minutes in the Eastern Townsite.

“This is the same line which is undergoing replacement because of its aged condition,” said Deputy Utility Manager for Electric Distribution Rafael de la Torre. He said that the new conduit is

90 percent in place and the rest of the line replacement will proceed as planned. The line failure was unrelated to the upgrade work.

Upgrade and maintenance issues and actions for Los Alamos’ electric distribution system are described in the August 2009 Reliability Protection status update is available here: http://www.losalamosnm.us/utilities/Electricity/WPReliability
