JJAB meeting tonight

  The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) meeting will be at 6:15 p.m. today at the LAPS Board Room.

LA Mountaineers meeting tonight

  Vaughn Hadenfeldt will give a presentation about Everett Ruess, a 20-year-old who journeyed into the canyon country of the Southwest and never returned, during the Los Alamos Mountaineers’ meeting at Fuller Lodge.

  The meeting will begin with dessert and social time at 7:30 p.m. today followed by a discussion of past and present trips. The talk will begin at 8 p.m.

Books are fun

  The Hospital Auxiliary, a nonprofit organization, will sponsor a “Books are Fun” fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday in the Medical Office Building, adjacent to the Los Alamos Medical Center. These books are new and many are bestsellers, as well as gifts, and other interesting items.  Proceeds from the sale will go toward the auxiliary’s scholarships and other operational needs. Betty Myers is chairperson for this event.

Republican Party meeting Thursday

  The Republican Party of Los Alamos will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hilltop House. Speakers for the event are Kyle Kilroy, a member of the Los Alamos County Transportation Board, who will discuss up coming issues and projects. J. R. Damron of Santa Fe, who is a candidate for Lt. Governor and Todd Johnson, who is the Northern New Mexico field director for Allen Weh, candidate for governor.

Don’t miss the Authors Speak Series

  Mesa Public Library Author’s Speak Series presents local poets Mary Cisper and Beth Wingate reading their work at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mesa Public Library’s upstairs meeting rooms.

Wine and cheese for a good cause

 PAC 8 is holding a Holiday Wine and Cheese fundraiser from 7-9 p.m. Friday  at Fuller Lodge. The event will feature a silent auction and proceeds go to help PAC 8 with its equipment needs and scholarships for children. PAC 8 is looking for local businesses to donate items for the auction. Tickets can be purchased by calling PAC 8 at 662-7228. For a limited time tables for eight people are for sale at a discounted price. Individual tickets are also for sale for $20.
