Diamond Drive Phase 4

Please use extreme caution when driving though the Diamond Drive work zone.
Paving operations within the Phase 4 work zone are scheduled to begin this week. Traffic signage will be in place to ensure safe vehicular travel through the work zone. Delays in travel should be anticipated in these areas.
Northbound Diamond traffic from the Los Alamos Canyon Bridge approaching the Trinity intersection has three options: veer right onto Trinity, continue northbound on Diamond in one lane of traffic; or, turn left onto Trinity into the Western area.
Continuing northbound on Diamond through the Trinity intersection a left turn lane is available at the Sullivan Field driveway at Canyon; University is closed at Diamond, use Sandia then left (south) on 40th Street to access UNM-LA; access the businesses west of Diamond at Metzger’s Mobil or off Sandia; expect full access at the Sandia and Orange intersection, where the work zone will end and all travel lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks north of the intersection will be open for use.
Southbound Diamond traffic south of the Sandia/Orange intersection has two southbound lanes; access businesses west of Diamond Drive off Diamond or Sandia; University will be closed at Diamond, use Sandia; access Sullivan Field at the Canyon intersection. The lanes will open at Canyon.
Pedestrian access will be maintained and signed through the work zone; cross at signalized intersections or the open pedestrian overpass.
The north pedestrian bridge was reopened last week and the south pedestrian bridge should be open for use by the end of this week.
Bicyclists may use the pedestrian access and dismount at crossings or assertively “take a lane” through the work zone. Motorists must not attempt to pass bicyclists within a travel lane.
Expect continued variations in congestion and delay times; allow an extra 20-30 minutes travel time, especially during the evening commute.
The weekly Open Discussions for the Diamond Phase 4 project are held each Wednesday at the Metzger’s Mobil Station at the corner of Diamond and Sandia. Stop by between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. and a County representative will be available to discuss the project.

Diamond Drive Phase 5
The Diamond Phase 5 Project is proceeding successfully, ahead of schedule and approaching completion.
Asphalt patching and repaving work will continue along Diamond Drive in the Phase 5 project area during the week of Sept. 20-24.
Pedestrian access along Diamond southbound near West Road remains open, as daytime work there proceeds, with cement barrier protection on the west side of Diamond southbound.
The bus stop (for Atomic City Transit and Park & Ride) on this southbound segment of Diamond  has been moved approximately 150 feet southward.
The DPU thanks motorist in advance for their attentiveness and patience. More specific information will continue to be posted at www.losalamosnm.us/projects/utilities/pages/diamondphase5.aspx as it becomes available or send email to DPU@lacnm.us or call 311 with your Diamond Phase 5 questions and comments.

Barranca Mesa Phase 2 Maintenance Project

Sidewalk and curb removal and placement of the new sidewalk and curb will continue on Barranca Road.
Side street work will occur with pipe placement, drop inlet work and rundown replacement work.
Expect increased construction activity and traffic control with lane shifts or flagging operations.
Minimal delays may be experienced.
Trinity Drive concrete work
The N.M. Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is scheduled to continue work on Trinity Drive. They will be replacing sidewalk with trip hazards and curb that is crumbling.  Expect lane closures at various locations along Trinity Drive.
Work zone tampering. Do not move traffic control devices as this crime is punishable by a $300 fine or 90 days in jail. Consequences may increase if the tampering causes injury or property damage. Please report suspicious activity or suspected tampering to the Los Alamos Police Department by dialing 911 or 662-8222.
Thank you for your continued cooperation, patience and courtesy.
As a reminder for all work zones, please use the queue space provided, take turns merging at the merge points, don’t block intersections and drive defensively. Consider carpooling, flexing schedules, or riding Atomic City Transit www.atomiccitytransic.com
