Karaoke for a Cure Friday

  Brooks & Dunn drummer, Trey Grey, will be in Los Alamos co-hosting “Karaoke for a Cure” at

7 p.m. Friday at the Canyon Bar. Grey was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease and has become a spokesman “drumming up awareness” to help find a cure for this hereditary, degenerative brain disorder. More than a quarter of a million Americans have HD or are “at risk” of inheriting the disease from an affected parent. HD affects as many people as Hemophilia, Cystic Fibrosis or muscular dystrophy. Tickets for the event are available at The Canyon Bar, 163 Central Park Square or Automotive Professionals 99 DP Road. All proceeds will benefit HDSA.

Choral Masterworks

  The Los Alamos Choral Society, together with members of the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra, will present “Choral Masterworks by Ralph Vaughan Williams” at 3 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Canyon Road.  The performance will be directed by Mary Place Badarak. Tickets are available at Brownell’s Hallmark and at the door for a cost of $15. Students are admitted free.

Talk to the artists

   The Art Center at Fuller Lodge invites the pubic to attend a Conversation with the Artists from 1- 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Art Center at Fuller Lodge. Four artists from the current exhibit, “Roots of Culture in Northern New Mexico,” Clare Villa, Secundino Sandoval and James Vigil, will discuss their lives and careers as residents in diverse and multi-cultural northern New Mexico communities.

Free shot clinic

  The Los Alamos Public Health Office, in cooperation with Los Alamos County and Los Alamos National Laboratory, will conduct a free H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccination clinic for the general public from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Jan. 29 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church — Parish Hall, 3700 Canyon Road. This clinic will primarily be for those able to receive the “inactivated vaccine” which is given as a shot.
