Domenici’s son to make major announcement

In a cryptic e-mail from his office Saturday, Sen. Pete Domenici’s son, Pete Domenici, Jr., invited the media to attend a press conference this afternoon in Albuquerque.

The e-mail said Domenici Jr., would make  “an important announcement” and “no further details will be released in advance.” Word is spreading rapidly that the son of New Mexico’s longest serving senator will announce his candidacy for governor.

If true, the Republican is thought to be a major contender against Democrat Diane Denish who currently serves at lieutenant governor.

New Municipal Building

County Council will hold a special council meeting on Jan. 28 regarding the Municipal Building site selection. The item had previously been on the regular session agenda set for

Jan. 26.

The meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 7 p.m. and PAC 8 will carry the broadcast live and via Internet streaming that evening. A council-appointed citizens’ committee recommended two sites last fall to the council.

One site is the former Los Alamos Apartments building site, which is owned by the county.

Four of five apartment buildings are currently being demolished and the site will be cleared by April.

The second site is private property just south of the Los Alamos Apartments across Central Avenue and owned by the Shannon Corporation.

The property that would be considered for the new building lies between Central Avenue and Trinity Drive.
