Free H1N1 shots to be given

  Senior citizens are now encouraged to get the H1N1 flu vaccination. The Betty Ehart Senior Center will offer free shots from 9-11:30 a.m. Jan. 20 in the classroom.  Please call 662-8920 if interested in getting the injection. The Department of Health is providing this service.  

LALO seeks directors

  Los Alamos Light Opera is accepting proposals from prospective directors for its March 2011 production. The proposal form, sample budget and further details are found at www.losalamos

lightopera.org/. The deadline for proposals is Jan. 22. For more information, call 455-0308.

UNM-LA Advisory Board to meet

  The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Advisory Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11 in the lecture hall.

League of Women Voters to meet

  The Los Alamos League of Women Voters will begin the year 2010 with State District Attorney Angela “Spence” Pacheco as the speaker at the monthly Lunch with a Leader event. This monthly event will be held from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Central Avenue Grill. Everything on the extensive menu is just $13.50 (includes meal, drink, tax, tip).

Chapter BC, P.E.O. meeting

  Chapter BC, P.E.O. will meet at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 12 at Nona Bowman’s home at 1045 Los Pueblos Drive, Barranca Mesa. Bowman will also serve as the co-hostess. Pam Houghteling will present the program. Please contact Nona at 662-3192 with regrets or questions.

Amateur radio exams to be held

  The Los Alamos Volunteer Examiner group will host the first of the quarterly exam sessions for the amateur radio licenses at

6:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at the “Old Fire Barn” (4017 Arkansas) in the upstairs meeting room. There will be testing for all classes of license.

  A picture ID or two other forms of ID and a test fee of $15 either cash or a check made out to the ARRL VEC is needed for those who wish to take the initial test.

  A picture ID or two other forms of ID, the original license and a copy or a valid CSCE (Certificate of Successful Completion of Exam) plus the $15 exam fee is needed for those who wish to upgrade to a higher class license.

   A simple calculator can be used during the exam, but cell phones as calculators cannot be used. For additional information, call or
