The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team only sporadically got into rhythm Saturday night, but was still good enough to pick up a District 2-4A sweep.
On Senior Night, the final regular season match at home, the Hilltoppers grabbed a 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 victory over the visiting Española Valley Sundevils.
The win upped the Hilltoppers’ district record to a perfect 7-0 and kept their set streak, now at 21 straight, intact as well.
Los Alamos (16-3) has just one regular season contest remaining, Wednesday night at Capital, before the district tournament. Los Alamos will host the district championship match Nov. 5.
Saturday at Grifith Gym, the Hilltoppers only sporadically got into a good flow in the first and third sets. Los Alamos committed numerous unforced errors on the night, but its hitting game proved to be too much for Española Valley’s defense.
Senior Chase Ealey finished with 12 spike kills, including some key hits down the stretch in the third set, which was close most of the way. Ealey crushed a short set from Savanah Romero late to give her team a 23-21 advantage and help put away the contest.
Carli Downs, also a senior, had a big game for the Hilltoppers at the net, with three block kills.
Española Valley’s Elena Salazar had nine spike kills.
