Posters and commercials for the final Harry Potter movie announce, “It all ends.” On July 15, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” opened in North America.
The movie began exactly where it left off in part one. Harry Potter, (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) still have to find and destroy four “horcruxes,” or “pieces of Lord Voldemort’s (Ralph Fiennes), soul” in order to defeat him.
Most of the movie takes place at Hogwarts School of Wizards and Wizardry, where Professor Severus Snape (Allan Rickman) is now headmaster. Voldemort, even more evil than in previous movies, is still trying to find and kill Harry.
However, Harry has been in a safe house but realizes he must return to Hogwarts Castle to find the last of the horcruxes and save his friends.
He sneaks his way into the castle but Snape is alerted to Harry’s return. When Harry reveals himself to all teachers and students, they are overjoyed and their confidence returns.
Harry and Professor McGonagall, (Maggie Smith) lead in taking over the castle and in planning how to defeat Voldemort.
When Snape looses control of Hogwarts, he fears for his life and flees back to Voldemort.
The Dark Lord, Voldemort, intends to destroy Harry and all those who are supporting Harry by launching a massive attack on Hogwarts.
This action scene is the largest and longest battle of any in the other seven Harry Potter movies. Voldemort’s followers the “Death Eaters” and an army of dementors, giants, trolls and werewolves storm Hogwarts castle.
A full-on wizard battle ensues. The fast-paced chase scenes through the castle halls increase the excitement of the battle.
Spells are cast to blow up buildings and set fires throughout the castle, while its defenders conjure a magical shield around the exterior of the school to hold off the enemies.
They also enchant statues from all around the castle to come to life and create an almost impenetrable stone army.
The majority of the movie is “on the edge of your seat” exciting. In the end, “it all ends” satisfactorily and is true to author, J.K. Rowling’s novel. The movie’s special effects and the acting are excellent.
“Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2,” is rated PG-13, with many violent and scary scenes. It was directed by David Yates and can be seen in either 3D or 2D in theaters now.
