  • The County of Los Alamos has proposed improvements to the northwest portion of Los Alamos Airport in the Airport Master Plan that was adopted by County Council on May 10, 2013. Specifically, future projects include procuring and removing the row of thirteen hangars at the northwest end of the airport along Taxiway F, relocating Taxiway F further to the north to provide adequate separation from the runway, relocating Airport Road to the northern boundary of the airport, and constructing multiple hangars, taxilanes and parking areas between the relocated taxiway and road. The existing parking lots will be reconfigured and the terminal building will either be expanded or a new terminal will be constructed. As part of its environmental review of the proposal, the Federal Aviation Administration must make a determination regarding impacts to a portion of the on-airport walking/hiking trail, pursuant to Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act. The County has proposed relocating a portion of the trail along the northern edge of the airport. The matter was considered by the Planning Advisory Committee during the review of the Airport Master Plan, and relocation of the trail segment was deemed adequate mitigation to offset the impacts without diminishing the quality of experience by those using the trail. A copy of the proposed trail segment relocation is available for review at the Airport Manager's office in the airport terminal building. Public comments regarding the proposed trail relocation must be submitted in writing to David Ploeger, Airport Manager, 1040 Airport Road, Los Alamos, NM 87544 within 30 days for consideration by the FAA.
